Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese’s recent comment that Marvel movies aren’t cinema and that they lack emotional and psychological experiences, didn’t go down well with many people. Now, Samuel L Jackson who plays the role of Nick Fury in MCU films, has reacted to Martin’s comments
Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese had recently made headlines for his comments on Marvel movies. Looks like he isn’t a fan of the Marvel movies and criticized it in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, and also added that while he tried watching the films, he just couldn’t. After his comment, he received backlash from several people and it also didn’t go down well with fans of MCU. Now, Samuel L Jackson, who plays the role of Nick Fury in Marvel films has reacted to Martin’s comments.
Samuel L Jackson has been an important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and played Fury in films Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home as well as in the television series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Samuel L Jackson told Variety, “That's like saying Bugs Bunny ain't funny. Films are films. Everybody doesn't like his stuff either. We happen to but everybody doesn't. There are a lot of Italian-Americans who think he shouldn't be making films about them like that. Everybody's got an opinion. Ain't gonna stop anyone from making a movie."
Martin Scorsese’s comments hurt a lot of people and earlier Karen Gillan too responded to his comments. In the interview with Britain’s Empire Magazine, Martin Scorsese talked about Marvel films and had said, “ I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."
